About
Jira is a project and issue tracking tool made by Atlassian, the Australian software company founded in 2002. Originally built for software bug tracking, Jira is now used by software, IT and business teams to plan and track all kinds of work.
Development teams use Jira for agile planning with Scrum and Kanban boards, backlogs, sprints and releases, while business teams track projects and requests. Rovo, Atlassian’s AI, adds AI search across tools, chat and agents, plus AI features that write issues, summarise work and suggest next steps.
As of October 2026, Jira is free for up to 10 users, with Standard at about $7.91 per user a month and Premium at about $14.54 per user a month at small team sizes, and per-user prices falling as teams grow. Atlassian has announced expanded usage-based billing for AI credits and automation starting in December 2026.
