Mistral Le Chat
About
Le Chat is the AI assistant made by Mistral AI, a Paris-based AI company founded in 2023. It launched in February 2024 and runs on Mistral’s own models, several of which are also released with open weights.
People use Le Chat for writing, research with web search, document analysis, coding help and image generation. It appeals especially to European users and businesses that want an AI provider headquartered in the EU, and to developers who already use Mistral’s open models.
As of October 2026, Le Chat has a Free plan, Pro at $14.99 a month, which is cheaper than most rivals’ main paid plans, a discounted plan for students, and Team and Enterprise plans for organisations. API access is billed separately per token.

Pros and cons
Pros
- Lower price: Le Chat Pro at $14.99 a month undercuts most major AI assistants' main paid plans.
- European provider: Mistral is headquartered in France, which matters to organisations that prefer an EU-based AI vendor.
- Very fast responses: Le Chat is noticeably quick for everyday questions.
- Open-weight ecosystem: Many Mistral models are available to self-host, so teams can mix the app with their own deployments.
Cons
- Smaller ecosystem: Le Chat has fewer integrations and third-party add-ons than ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot.
- API billed separately: A Pro subscription does not include API credits for developers.
- Usage limits on advanced features: Deep research and extended thinking still have caps on the Pro plan.
