About

Ideogram is an AI image generator based in Toronto, founded in 2022 by former Google Brain researchers who worked on the Imagen text-to-image model. It launched publicly in August 2023.

Ideogram is best known for rendering readable, correctly spelled text inside images, something many image models struggle with. That makes it popular for posters, logos, thumbnails, social media graphics, invitations and marketing designs.

As of October 2026, Ideogram has a Free plan with limited daily prompts, Plus at around $20 a month billed monthly (less with annual billing), Pro for heavier users, and Team and Enterprise plans. The older Basic plan is closed to new subscribers. Plan credits expire at the end of each billing cycle.

Features and integrations

  • Accurate Text Rendering: Generates images with clear, correctly spelled text, which suits posters, logos and ads.

  • Magic Prompt: Automatically expands short prompts into detailed ones for better results.

  • Style Reference: Upload reference images to guide the look and style of new generations.

  • Canvas and Magic Fill: Edit, extend and replace parts of an image on an infinite canvas.

  • Private Generations: Paid plans let users keep images private instead of showing them in the public feed.

  • API Access: Developers can integrate Ideogram's image models into their own apps through its API.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Best-in-class text in images: Ideogram is a leading choice when images need readable words.
  • Great for marketing graphics: Posters, thumbnails and social posts come out close to ready to use.
  • Free plan available: Users can test the tool before paying.
  • Easy to use: Magic Prompt helps beginners get good results quickly.

Cons

  • Credits expire monthly: Unused priority credits do not roll over.
  • Plan changes: The Basic plan was closed to new users, which pushed the entry price up.
  • Less artistic range for some styles: Users focused on painterly art may prefer Midjourney.
