Google Gemini
About
Google Gemini is Google’s AI assistant and the family of AI models behind it, developed by Google DeepMind. It replaced Bard in early 2024 and now runs across the Gemini app, Android phones, Gmail, Google Docs and Google Search.
Gemini answers questions, writes and edits text, summarises email threads and documents, and creates images and short videos. Its biggest advantage is that it works inside the Google apps many people already use, so it can draft a Gmail reply or summarise a Doc without copying and pasting.
As of October 2026, Gemini has a free tier. Paid access comes through Google AI plans that bundle Google One storage: AI Plus at $4.99 a month with 400 GB, AI Pro at $19.99 a month with 5 TB, and AI Ultra at $99.99 or $199.99 a month. Businesses get Gemini through Google Workspace. Prices vary by country.
Features and integrations
-
Google Workspace Integration: Gemini drafts emails in Gmail, summarises and rewrites Docs, helps build formulas in Sheets and finds files in Drive, all without leaving the app you are working in.
-
Deep Research: Gemini can browse many web pages and turn them into a structured, cited report, which is useful for market research, trip planning or understanding a new topic.
-
Image and Video Generation: Users can create images and short video clips from text prompts inside the Gemini app, with higher limits on paid plans.
-
NotebookLM: Google's research notebook grounds answers in sources you upload, such as PDFs and notes, and can turn them into study guides and podcast-style Audio Overviews.
-
Gems: Gems are custom versions of Gemini with saved instructions, so users can set up repeatable assistants for tasks like editing, coaching or planning.
-
Android Assistant: On Android phones, Gemini works as the built-in assistant, using on-screen context and connecting with Google apps to complete tasks by voice or text.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Built into Google apps: Gemini works inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive and Android, which makes it the easiest AI assistant to adopt for people and teams already using Google.
- Low-cost entry plan: Google AI Plus costs $4.99 a month after a June 2026 price cut, making it one of the cheapest paid plans from a major AI lab.
- Storage included: Every paid Google AI plan bundles Google One cloud storage, which adds real value for anyone already paying for extra Google storage.
- Creative tools included: Image and video generation are available in the Gemini app, so users do not need separate tools for basic visual content.
Cons
- Less useful outside Google: People who do not use Gmail, Docs or Android lose much of what sets Gemini apart from other assistants.
- Changing plans and limits: Google has renamed and repriced its AI plans several times, so feature limits by tier can be hard to follow.
- Uneven rollout: Some new features launch first in the US or only in English, so availability can differ by country, including India.
