About

Mastra is an open-source TypeScript framework for building AI agents and workflows, founded in San Francisco in 2024 by the team that built the Gatsby web framework. It is backed by Y Combinator and reached its 1.0 release in January 2026.

Developers use Mastra to build agents with memory, tools, workflows, RAG and evaluations, and to trace and debug them in Mastra Studio. Companies including Replit use it in production. In September 2026 the team launched Mastra Factory on Product Hunt, which moves work from issue to production using agents.

The core framework is free under the Apache 2.0 license. Hosted platform and enterprise features are available, with cloud pricing published on Mastra’s site.

Features and integrations

  • Agents: Define agents with models, tools, memory and instructions in TypeScript.

  • Workflows: Build durable multi-step processes with branching, parallel steps and suspend-and-resume.

  • Memory and RAG: Give agents conversation history, semantic recall and retrieval.

  • Evals and Observability: Score outputs and trace decisions, tokens, latency and cost.

  • Mastra Studio: A local playground for testing and debugging agents.

  • Mastra Factory: Agents that take work from an issue through to production.
